32-bit Appeon Workspace for Appeon 2015 Build 0366 in iOS
Posted by Liz Robertson on 01 March 2016 10:47 AM

UltraLite has supported 64-bit iOS from version 12.0.1 build 4201 sp85 on already, but unfortunately the following three files (that are required to support 64-bit UltraLite) are not included in this installer.

  • sa12_ga_linux_x86.x64.1201_3152_l10n.tar.gz
  • sa12_ga_solaris_x64.1201_3152.tar.gz
  • SQLAnywhere1201_GA.dmg

And because of this Appeon is currently unable to get the needed compiling files to work on the support (of 64-bit UltraLite in 64-bit iOS). Appeon will actively put more effort on supporting it. And before that kindly please download and install the Appeon Workspace in the link below if you are using UltraLite on 64-bit iOS devices with Appeon 2015 Build 0366.

http://file.appeon.com/download/APB/2015/EBF/build_0366.00/7.0.0366.00_32bit.ipa

For users who want to package standalone apps or customize their own Appeon Workspace, please build it for only 32-bit iOS if your database is UltraLite.

In Xcode 7, please only keep armv7 next to Valid Architectures (Build Settings > Architectures) as shown below to build it only for 32-bit iOS.

For more details on the reason that you should use the above provided Appeon Workspace, please refer to the following news.

Use the Exceptions tab in the Settings Menu to help Visual Expert better understand your code. An exception processes a given function or variable and creates a supplementary relationship between two components of the application. Find additional references, improve the results of the macro “open hierarchy” and generate more hyperlinks in the source code view.

Go to Add, and select “Open Window Exception”. This exception extends the results of the macro “open hierarchy” by tracking more calls between Windows, Menus and Application Objects.

Define either a window opening function or a variable containing the name of the opened window, by declaring the type of item it is, and selecting the specific item. You can also select the function’s parameter containing the opened object using the dropdown list.

Once the exception has been set, close the Settings window. A pop-up requesting you to re-analyse your code will appear. Select yes so that your project will take into account the new exceptions declared.

How do I make more space available for Visual Expert projects on my machine?
Posted by Liz Robertson on 14 January 2016 11:34 AM

Depending on the size and complexity of your code, Visual Expert may require 10x the size of your code in space available.

There are a number of ways to create more space for new projects:

  1. Select where your temporary files are stored. Visual Expert creates temporary files when it runs the analysis. You can choose a drive with available space by going to Settings, General and choosing which folder stores the generated files in the “Temporary Files” Section.

  2. Delete old analyses of an existing project. In the Settings Menu > Project Settings > History Tab, you can select and remove previous analyses. For examples, ones that have been aborted in the past.

  3. Delete old projects. Go to File - Open Project and select a project that you no longer need available. Then select “Remove”.

Authenticate users with their Facebook accounts using Visual Guard
Posted by Liz Robertson on 09 October 2015 11:36 AM

With Visual Expert 2015, allow your users to identify themselves with their Facebook account (on top of classic username/password and Windows accounts).

With this feature you can:

  • Simplify the creation of accounts, and stay up to date with the latest methods of authentication.
  • Get to know your users better with information from their Facebook accounts

To get started with the Facebook account authentication feature, just add the Facebook plug-in in the Visual Guard administration consoles.

The next article will look at how to enrich Visual Guard user accounts with extended attribute parameters to improve Visual Guard’s integration into your applications.

Upcoming articles on Visual Guard’s new features include:

  • The ability to synchronize Visual Guard accounts with 20 extra parameters when using Active Directory accounts.
  • The ability to synchronize Visual Guard accounts with data from a functional table of users that already exists in your application.

Enrich the profile of your users with extended attributes
Posted by Liz Robertson on 09 October 2015 11:33 AM

With Visual Guard 2015, add as many attributes as you wish into the definition of the Visual Guard users table.

Create attributes by defining their name and type (string, integer, double, date/time, Boolean).

Sort and group by extended attributes.

Extended Attributes Sort and Group

Select the properties available to define the new attribute:

The user profile with the extended attributes:

Search extended attributes

Extended attributes can be used as search criteria:

Search extended attributes

The use of extended attributes allows the user table of Visual Guard to integrate with the specifications of your management applications and avoid creating another specific table for the users.

The next articles will discuss the possibility of synchronizing Visual Guard user accounts with 20 extra parameters when using Active Directory accounts.

This will be followed by articles about synchronizing Visual Guard user accounts with data from functional user tables that already exist within your application.

How do I make the most of my Global Search?
Posted by Liz Robertson on 10 September 2015 02:19 PM

Visual Expert allows you to run a global search across your application (and also across multiple applications!). Visual Expert doesn't run a regular text search like most applications: as well as giving you the location of the item directly in the source code, the VE search gives you rich results including type, container, and hierarchy information. Because of this, the search may take some time to load.

There are a couple of tricks to making the process run faster:

To really speed up the search, specify the string of code you wish to search for in the Source code field and use regular expressions/Match Case to narrow down your search even more.

Filling in the second line, component name, will also help to speed up the search; however, because VE uses an algorithm to cross reference the source field with the component field, the search may still take some time to return results.

Note that using the "Search into:" box will not necessarily speed up your search, as this filter is processed after Visual Expert has fetched the container and hierarchy information.

Finally, we do recommend keeping “Show parent hierarchy” selected for a richer result.
